While you were watching The Patriot, you were asked to find the similarities and differences between that and Braveheart. Please write a brief paragraph on what you found those to be.
Brave heart and the Patriot are both stories about how one man overcomes the atrocities around him, and leads their people towards a greater good. Not to mention that both films have awesome hair flicking. Both stories are very similar and some scenes from both films almost look alike. But the big differences between both films are the time periods in which they take lace and the fact that Mel Gibson's character in Patriot, is a man deeply haunted by his past, more so than Wallace was. William Wallace had some bad memories but nothing compared to the Patriot. Both men had their armies, and their brotherhood to their men but in the end one lived the war and went back to his family. Last but not least William Wallace was a real person, the patriot was a fictional character based on historical events.
A few similarities in the two movies Braveheart and Patriot was that both of the main characters in the movies had someone they love die in the beginning, the main characters didn't want to be involved in war until they lost someone they loved, and both movies are fighting against England. A few differences in the two movies are the time periods the movies take place, the movie Patriot has guns, and the movie Patriot takes place in America and Braveheart took place in Scotland.
At first glance both movies are extremely similar. A father who wants to be at peace with life, is forced to join a militia, to fight for their countries independence, when a family member is killed. the only significant differences in these movies are the scene/time, and Braveheart dies.
i'm sorry this is so short, for some reason it deleted my last one and i just didn't feel like re-writing the whole thing again.
Both The Patriot and Braveheart seem to be very similar, but they have some differences. Some similarities are, that in both movies they where fighting the British. However Braveheart is the Scottish against the British, and the other are the Americans versus the British. In both movies something that causes the main character to start fighting is because he lost somebody that he loved. One was his wife while the other was his son. Also in both movies they are both fighting for their freedom. So they could be their own nation. Some differences are the time period. The Patriot is in the 18th century while Braveheart is in the 13th century. Also in one movie the main character has lost his family. While in The Patriot he still has his family. Although he does loose some along the way. Also in The Patriot the main character at first doesn't want to fight for freedom. While in Braveheart he leads the way for other people to start fighting. Also in Braveheart the main character dies. While in the other he gets to go home, and be with his family. Finally one major similarity that I found is that in both movies both countries got to have their freedom.
There are many similarities and difference between "Braveheart" and "The Patriot." There were some very obvious similarities such as there were both war for independence against England, which the both won and the were both very violent and gruesome. Some similarities that might have gone unnoticed are the fact that the lost of a loved one led them to fight for the war. Some main difference are that they take place at different times and different places. Some difference that might have gone unnoticed are that in "The Patriot" the main character is against going to war. They also vote on whether to go to war or not.
Watching these two movies I found them them to be surprisingly similar yet different at the same time. Both the characters in the film are leaders of their army/militia are fighting for their independence from England. There were very sad deaths in both movies as well. In the Patriot the main character lost his two oldest sons and in Braveheart he lost his wife along with many of his friends. Both wars in the films result in the countries winning their independance. The time setting in the movies were noticeably different; Braveheart being in the late 1200s and The Patriot being in the middle to late 1700s. This means that the fighting style was different as well, in Braveheart there were many swords and bows. While in the Patriot muskets were mainly used to fight. Also William Wallace, Braveheart, died towards the end of the movie and Benjamin Martin, The Patriot, survived and did not die in the movie. These two movies are very similar yet different in their own ways.
I think that "The Patriot" and the film "Braveheart" are essentially the same movie. Although there are some differences, which I will go over in this paragraph, there is far more similarities between the two movies than differences. In both Movies, the Mel Gibson character is a simple but brave country character, who cares deeply for his family and colleagues. In "The Patriot", it is for his family, and in "Braveheart", it is his fellow Scotsmen and his wife. In both Movies the main characters are relatively peaceful and do not necessarily want to participate in the war that is ravaging their lands around them, until the enemy, in both movies, the British, commit atrocities against his families. In "The Patriot", they kill his son and capture his other son and burn down his farm, and in Braveheart, they kill his wife. This then motivates that main character to want to fight against the British, and in both he leads a small, seemingly worthless but highly effective rabble army against the British. In both movies, there is a central enemy character who wants Mel Gibson's character to be dead, in "The Patriot", it is British dragoons Colonel Tavington, and in "Bravheheart", it is Edward Longschanks. Also in both movies, there is someone on the main character's side who betrays him. In "The Patriot", it is the loyalist who joins the dragoons and reveals where they all live, in "Braveheart", it is Robert the Bruce. In both movies these traitors feel bad about what they are doing. However, there are some differences between the two movies. First, is the time period. The movies are separated by hundreds of years. However, the most galring difference in my opinion, are the endings. In "The Patriot", the main character is relatively successful in his goals, and although 2 of his sons and many of friends die, it has a relatively happy ending, with him getting a new house on his old farm. However, in "Braveheart", the main character is captured and brutally executed by the British, and the ending is pretty sad. I think this is the mot important difference between the two films. These are what is similar and different in the movie "The Patriot" and "Braveheart".
Excellent Marcus. "Also in both movies, there is someone on the main character's side who betrays him. In "The Patriot", it is the loyalist who joins the dragoons and reveals where they all live, in "Braveheart", it is Robert the Bruce." I think this statement really conveys some of the atrocities of gaining independence: loyalists who refuse to look at the greater good.
Braveheart and Patriot are two different war movies, they have differences and similarities. Braveheart is about the war between Scotland and England during the 13th century. The Patriot is about the Revolutionary War in America that was between the colonies and England. Both movies had very graphic fighting scenes. In the time period Braveheart took place in they didn't have too many civilized discussions, but the time period the Patriot takes place the people tried to have civilized discussions before they killed each other. Even though the movies have differences, mostly because of the time differences, but they do have similarities.
Braveheart and Patriot are two very different films. Brave heart takes place in the 13th century and the patriot takes place in the 18th century. Another difference was where the films took place, brave heart took place in scotland and patriot took place in America. The movies also have similarities as well. They are both war movies, and both the main characters fight for their family that was killed. As well as the characters are very angry.
I found the films "Braveheart" and "The Patriot" to be fairly similar films. Both films both have themes of independence and freedom. In "Braveheart," William Wallace is attempting to gain independence for Scotland from the British crown. He finds that the laws which they enact to be unfair. In "The Patriot," the main character is making a run at freedom from the British crown for all Americans. Both main characters are played by Mel Gibson. Also, both protagonists are relatively peaceful men with a knowledge of warfare and tactics. However, William Wallace was merely educated in the art of war, in "The Patriot" the character had experienced war. In both films, a loved one of the hero dies, sparking their violent ways. in "The Patriot," it is his son. In "Braveheart' it is his wife, whom he loves very much. Another similarity is that both of the first actions against the crown are orchestrated by the main character. They both utilized guerrilla tactics to out do the enemy with an element of surprise. The final similarity is that both characters are betrayed. Consequently, William Wallace was captured and killed, in "The Patriot" he overcomes this obstacle to bring about the end of the film. Obviously, there are many comparisons to be made of these films.

ReplyDeleteHair flicking! I love that. Great points about the atrocities and the realism aspects.

ReplyDeleteNice job, Seth. Isn't it funny how England is the "bad guy" in both?

You should have taken time to rewrite! Maybe you should write them in word and then copy and paste your response!

ReplyDeleteNicely done, Sara. I am glad you mentioned that both countries gained their freedom from British rule.

ReplyDeleteThank you for picking up on the "vote" the Americans took as a political response.
